New meter installation

Half-hourly and new meters, specified for the premises and installed properly.

A meter that does not match the premises produces estimated bills, or a tariff that never quite fits the way the site uses electricity. We specify half-hourly and new meters from the load, then the installation is arranged so the MPAN and the contract agree.

Specified from the load

A new supply and a meter change start from what the premises will draw, not from a default box.

Half-hourly where it fits

Larger demand has long used half-hourly meters, often above 100 kW. Settlement is extending that data to more sites.

The connection stays the network’s

The distribution network operator owns the wires. The meter is arranged with the supplier.

Then the tariff

A new MPAN still needs a contract. We check the number and the price before the first bill.

Which meter the premises needs

Three arrangements cover most UK business supplies. The right one follows the load and the settlement.

MeterWhat it recordsTypical premisesWhat it changes
Non-half-hourlyPeriodic readings, sometimes estimatedA smaller siteThe tariff uses a profile of when energy is used
AMR or smartRemote readings, more oftenMost small businessesFewer estimated bills
Half-hourlyEvery 30 minutesHigher demand, or where settlement requires itThe price can follow the actual half hours

Half-hourly metering has long applied to larger demand, often above 100 kW. Market-wide half-hourly settlement is moving more sites onto half-hourly data. We check which arrangement applies before the meter is specified.

The meter and the contract are one job

Installing a meter without a matching tariff leaves the site on a poor rate from the first invoice. We specify the meter for the premises, the installation is arranged with the supplier and the network operator, and the MPAN is checked against the contract before billing starts.

What's included

  • New supplies and meter changes specified from the premises
  • Half-hourly meters where the demand or the settlement requires them
  • AMR and smart metering where a smaller site needs remote readings
  • The MPAN checked against the tariff before billing starts
  • One contact from the specification through to the contract

How it works

  1. 1Tell us the premises, the load, and whether this is a new supply or a change
  2. 2We specify the meter: non-half-hourly, AMR or smart, or half-hourly
  3. 3The installation is arranged with the supplier and the network operator
  4. 4We check the MPAN and the tariff before the first bill

The installation

The distribution network operator for the region owns the wires into the premises. A new connection or an upgrade is their work. The meter itself is arranged with the supplier.
